Jesus Dojo Intensive
Jesus came proclaiming the imminent reality of the Kingdom of God, offering to all who would follow him Life the way the Creator designed it. The Master showed in word and deed that this abundant life could be realized as his ways became our own. Set in San Francisco, The Jesus Dojo Intensive is a contextual and experiential learning intensive. We view these group encounters not as “mission trips” or “service projects,” but rather as an invitation and initiation into a life of discipleship in the way of Jesus. Our intent is to teach a worldview rooted in the message and model of Jesus and to take action to live into this reality, leading to a life of greater wholeness, love, worship and adventure.
In these group encounters we explore four themes evident in the life of Jesus: companion, artist/story-teller, healer and mystic.
As a companion Jesus lived with arms open wide to all people, making friends with the despised and forgotten, sharing his journey and his life with an expanding cast of characters.
Jesus was an artist in the sense that he lived with an awakened imagination to the immediacy of God’s presence and rule on earth, telling stories and taking prophetic actions to reveal this and to provoke and inspire others to do the same.
As a healer he touched those who were hungry, thirsty, sick and imprisoned. He advocated for the poor and weak and he identified with the sufferings and struggles common to humanity.
Jesus was a mystic in that he was conscious of the transcendent reality of God, accessing power to love through contemplative prayer, mindful surrender and the practices of silence and solitude.
We invite groups to join us in a variety of activities and experiences including:
* diverse cultural engagements
* walks through various San Francisco neighborhoods
* urban prayer exercises
* art and poetry projects
* awareness and advocacy for the oppressed among us
* serving alongside a diverse group of people at a community food center
Group facilitation, training, transportation in the city, housing, materials and all meals are included in the cost for the Jesus Dojo Intensive. Though
designed as a week long experience, the trip can be modified into various shorter lengths, and is geared toward high school and college age. Please contact Jeff Hinn (jeff@reimagine.org) for more details and information.
