Group Encounters

We host day and week-long learning and serving experiences for students and adults. We see these intensive group encounters less as a “mission trip” or “service project” and more as an invitation into our community-- to be loved and trained into a life of discipleship.   Our intent is to teach a worldview rooted in the message and model of the Master, leading to a life of greater love and risk taking.

In these group encounters we explore four themes evident in the life of Jesus: companion, artist/story-teller, healer and mystic.

As a companion Jesus lived with arms open wide to all people, making friends with the despised and forgotten, and sharing his journey with an expanding cast of characters.

Jesus was an artist in the sense that he lived with an awakened imagination for the immediacy of God's kingdom, telling stories and taking prophetic actions to provoke and inspire.

As a healer he touched those who were hungry, thirsty, sick or imprisoned. He advocated for the poor and weak and he identified with the sufferings and struggles common to humanity.

Jesus was a mystic in the sense that he was conscious of the transcendent reality of God, accessing power to love through contemplative prayer, mindful surrender and the practices of silence and solitude.

We invite groups to join us in the following activities and experiences:

  • diverse cultural engagements
  • walks through various San Francisco neighborhoods
  • urban prayer exercises
  • art and poetry projects
  • Graffiti removal, trash pick-up and neighborhood beautification
  • Participation in a neighborhood safety project
  • Serving at a community food center

Group faciliation, training, housing and meals are included in the hosting cost for these experiences. Please contact nate AT reimagine DOT org to set up a Group Encounter.
