About SEVEN

Thank you for visiting Seven. We are an intentional community of people living in San Francisco. Our dream is to cultivate a local/ global culture of Christ-following that is catalytic and generative. We are optimistic that people experiencing new life in of the kingdom of God and obedience to the specific teachings of Jesus will be fruitful multipliers of the message and reality of the reign of God—a reality that is fundamentally characterized by love.

In 2005 a group of people began living into this dream by taking monthly sabbath retreats and adhering to common rhythms of life.

Community Advocates

Our community life is facilitated by a group of people we call "advocates." Advocates are members of the community who:

  • Initiate projects
  • Facilitate encounter groups
  • Provide Mentoring
  • Host Gatherings

What We Believe

We see ourselves as part of the continuing story of the Judeo-Christian scriptures, the ancient creeds and  the historic legacy of the church of Jesus Christ. As a community we emphasize and pursue orthopraxis, a congruency of right belief and right living-- resonating with the Apostle who said, "Watch your life and doctrine closely, perservere in them." (I Timothy 4:16). We recognize that how we live is equally important to what we say we believe.  We are committed to reading the scriptures in community and allowing the scriptures read our lives. Historical statements of belief represent the questions and concerns of a particular people and place. We acknowledge The following statements represent the integration of our beliefs.

  • We believe God is here—loving, present and active.
  • We believe we are part of a good creation.
  • We believe our lives are pregnant with meaning and purpose.
  • We believe we live in a world we were made to enjoy, embrace and cultivate.
  • We believe we are intimately loved by a Creator who has our best interests in mind.
  • We believe we were made for the times we are living in.
  • We believe we must negotiate with God to discover how we are being loved in every moment of our lives.
  • We believe a new life is now possible through the example and sacrifice of Jesus.
  • We believe the reign of God is breaking out with violent energy.
  • We expect significant healing in every dimension of our lives.
  • We believe we were made for one purpose: to love the creator and the creation.
  • We struggle in the hope that a time is coming when all things will be made new.
  • We believe that the grace of God frees us to live a new life.
  • We seek the remaking of creation and embrace all of life as sacred.
  • We believe the Spirit of God fuels transformation.
  • We believe there is a revolutionary force at work, a personality that is wooing us and towards health, wholeness, love and peace.
  • We recognize that the empires of this world stand in opposition to the kingdom of God.
  • We recognize that we have inherited and perpetuated empty ways of life that must be dismantled and replaced by a new pattern of living.
  • We recognize that our actions and habits are often in opposition to the kingdom of God.
  • We recognize Jesus as our model and teacher for life.
  • We believe we are invited into perpetual revolution and transformation.
  • We reimagine our goals, priorities, habits and behavior in light of the invitation to come further into the kingdom of God.
  • We ask God to examine our hearts, minds and actions to determine what changes are necessary.
  • We are committed to doing everything necessary to be transformed by power of the spirit.
  • We believe that transformation is realistic and possible.
  • We surrender the parts of ourselves to the will of our creator.
  • We demonstrate our faith by how we live.
  • We take daily risks to follow the master.
  • We choose to live in the generosity and abundance of the kingdom.
  • We seek love and reconciliation in all our relationships.
  • We act with compassion toward those who are hungry, thirsty, lonely, naked, or in prison.
  • We seek to live a centered life by practicing prayer, silence and solitude.
  • We make and keep our vows of obedience to the teachings of the master.
  • We continue to explore the story together, teaching and admonishing one other.
  • We apply whatever means are necessary to exterminate dark habits and behaviors--disciplining our bodies and minds towards obedience.
  • We live with intentionality in terms of our minds, our bodies, our time, our relationships and our resources.
